Malartic Branch Merger Underpins Underground Mining Growth for Weir ESCO and Carriere

2 August 2022

Settling into their new groove in the same space, Weir ESCO and Carriere have brought the best of both together and will look to leverage each other’s expertise to serve Eastern Canada’s surface and underground mining markets.

It’s official! Weir ESCO successfully completed the integration of its Malartic branch, unifying ESCO and Carriere sales teams to serve Eastern Canada’s mining region.

The merger is part of integration activities led by Weir after the acquisition of longtime ESCO partner, Carriere Industrial Supply (CIS).

CIS is highly complementary to Weir ESCO’s strategic ambitions in underground markets. The branch exists under the Weir ESCO name, and will sell premium underground and surface mining equipment in a minerals-rich region.

The team has already benefitted from the combination, and envisions great prospects and more access to customers in Eastern Canada, explains Pete Huget, managing director for Weir ESCO’s North American region.

“We have an immensely talented group. Bringing our sales teams together under one roof helps accelerate opportunities to leverage our sales network and serve our valued customers,” said Pete.

With this transition, CIS maintains its fabrication, manufacturing and business operations in Malartic, Timmins and Sudbury.

For Mickey Obradovich, CIS general manager, welcoming Weir ESCO’s sales staff to Carriere’s branch location was a natural next step of integration.

The team, he says, has made great progress since being acquired in April. “Weir ESCO is the perfect partner. I am proud of the way the CIS team has responded and been actively engaged to learn more about each other’s businesses and look for opportunities to grow,” said Mickey.

Weir ESCO and Carriere teams are ready to support customer needs by delivering innovative, value-added technologies for the mining and infrastructure industries.
